Wanted: piece of brass rod to make a vervelle.

I need to make a replacement vervelle for a helm.
I need a piece of brass rod about 3/8" in diameter (bigger is OK) and maybe 4" long to chuck up in the drill press.
Anyone willing to sell me some? I don't want to shell out $28 for a 6-foot length from McMaster Carr.

Many hardware, and most hobby (train/plane) shops stock brass rod in short lengths

I take it you dont have a Metal Supermarket local to you?
http://www.metalsupermarkets.com/
You can buy very small bits of metal from them at the store. I dont know about on line.

I can provide a bit of brass for you-shoot me an email.
Can also provide a finished vervelle if you want to go that route.

Hey Aelric,
Sadly, they quoted me about $25 for a 6" piece of 3/8" rod, which is about what I'd pay for a 6 foot segment from Mcmaster. They said if I walked in the store it would only cost me $4.
Mark, I'll take you up on that. I'll send you some cash for the rod and the shipping. I'll send you a PM.
