I attribute a lot of it to my own inexperience with Japanese style armor.
Some of that I attribute to the guys who do Japanese. They're much pickier. Or... seem to be. There are a lot of nits that can be picked, and they will. Good on them though, for wanting to do things "right".
Some of that I attribute to my own zeal. "Fuck reading! I'm gonna make shit!"
A lot of the issues I had were with other things. Like... laces. I'd read on the archive that paracord was less favored because of it being too skinny and round. Gutting it like I did helps it lay flatter. Ok fine. Some guys said shoelaces work. I tried that. When I ordered them I thought in my head "We'll get the extra fat ones! No one can complain about them being too skinny then!" Which would probably hold true. And mostly probably would have worked, except anywhere where the lace had to go through the holes more than once. The just wouldn't fit. Not gonna happen. Originaly, I'd had grommets/eylets in all the holes. I drilled them out, stripped the paint, repainted and tried the shoelaces again hoping that the 1/32" difference would let them through. Nope. Another Pro-Tip: Don't trust 20 year old spray paint, no matter how well it performs in testing. The stuff will let you "test" 4 houses and one barn's worth of surface area and work like a dream, then when you get to the "real" project, still be all jacked up. Leaving you to strip 3 good parts, 1 jacked part, reconsider and repaint the whole thing. Bought rope to tie it shut... too damned big to fit through the D rings. Bought more rope. So all in all I feel like I built the thing like 3 times. It just wanted to fight me.
It looked better in my head....
Damnit.
