A Fine Helm for Sale!

Post by Douglas Pryor »

This is a helmet for full contact SCA combat. The face is hand sculpted from 12ga. mild steel. The rest of the helm is of 14ga. mild steel construction. The entire helm is built to last with weld construction in and out, with riveted plates to complete the ascetic. Hand forged bars frame the face providing an important layered affect. To see more pictures or to watch the face come to life frame by frame please visit https://douglas-pryor.squarespace.com/b ... m-practice
Fits a large head 24 1/2 inch round-22 1/2 with plenty of room for padding.
To purchase I can send you an invoice through Paypal.com or visit my Etsy page here:

Actualy... I kinda tend to agree. It doesn't break the peice by any means... but... it's something easy enough to work around.

I don't know if I have weird tastes but I rather like the flatness on the rivets, don't ask me why though. Calling this "Fine" is an understatement. Just let me go sell a kidney on the black market and I can take this off your hands. :D

cmon dudes, to put all that work into a helm and then go and flatten all the rivet heads? You may like flat rivets, but not this guy. riveting 101 says you don't flatten rivets. Also why is the face not attached inside the brow of the helm? The repouse work is beautiful in the ridicules extremities of the bell curve, but the overall execution of the helm itself is just a bit off to me.
That said, I have dibs on the 6th helm this cat makes. My boy is going to want a dead sexy helm when he gets back from the sandbox..

Doug, did you get my email about your impulsive face helm being in the May Maxim article on the SCA? It's my new avatar (see left). I get a lot of compliments on my helm, but your lastest work far surpasses it.

Guys thanks very much for all the kind words!

And yeah I did smash down the rivets. And I totally have the tools to keep them from getting flattened. I grew up thinking they looked cool cause you knew they were worked on and not just barely tapped or something. Anyway, this piece was something I just kind of tinkered with in my spare time until it was done. Since it wasn't commissioned I didn't care to do the rivets up pretty.

@Tally: I think I got an email from someone about one of my helms, but it was a youtube video...If you wouldn't mind sending it again I'd love to see the article. Pryorarmour@gmail.com
And dude I'm super happy you are enjoying the helm!! If it ever needs a tune up just let me know!

I sent you a copy to that address. Yep, that was me with the vids as well. Lots of people ask about the helm. I tell everyone Oslo Armory, but now I'll tell them Douglas Pryor. Great work!

Flattened rivets or no, this guy does beautiful work. I had the chance to meet him recently, and in addition to having grown a rather remarkable mustache, he's also pretty cool to hang out with. This helm, and his other creations, does not disappoint up close. Someone should buy it.

Brilliant work. I'd like to ask a question about a choice on the aesthetics, if you don't mind. You can sculpt an amazing and life like face -- that's impressive. But why did you put it on TOP of the helm, rather than make it look like a real face UNDER the helm? If I were making that fantastic face, I'd put a visor or something on the helm to make it look more like a real face under a helmet. I'm just curious about the decision making process.

Damn, dude. You have wicked skills.

Looks like he's got some of each, actually: the bottom and sides look like they are in the helm, the top looks like it isn't. Here's another pic of my helm where he has done almost the same thing.

That was why I am so confused as to the choice; it seems to be doing both things.

Personally I like it the way it is. I am not over fond of visors. This is a personal preference. Guess thats why their is all kinds of armor. Fantastic hat!!! That face is to amazing to hide. Love the scars under the left eye. Gives me the morning wood!
