So I bought this really cool piece of armor. It's awesome, but it doesn't fit me. (44" chest is a mite bit too big). I could lengthen the buckles but then there would not be full protection on the sides and I don't want to start bolting on extra armor pieces because I don't have any experience in leatherworking.
It's made for combat. The previous owner did a lot of kendo and SCA stuff with it, you can see from the inside that this has been worn a lot (but is still in perfect working condition). There are overlapping layers, usually two layers of 10 ounce leather. The upper breastplate is rounded to deflect blows and in the event you get smashed in the chest it should absorb quite a bit of force because it isnt right up on you. The lower part of the chest piece hangs from there, lets you get some airflow. The back is a neat design of horizontal pieces that let it flex, making it comfortable to sit in but still very sturdy. As I said its truly a unique design and I'm really disappointed I can't squeeze into it.
This only includes the breast/backplate and the spike straps covering the buckles, not the pauldrons or anything else in the picture of the guy wearing it.
The artwork is also quite cool in my opinion, and clearly he did a good job of applying the paint because it has been beat on and still looks great. The spikes on the shoulder are a little bit cheesy IMO but they can be easily removed with a screwdriver in 2 seconds.
I'm looking to trade for another cuirass/harness or maybe some other pieces of armor, really just trying to build up my collection. I'd consider a straight up sale as well. I'm in the US, east coast. Thanks!
