SOLD-Historically Patterned 6mm mail standards ready to ship

Post by Tom B. »

These Two are sold but I should be able to make more in a few weeks.

I have two standards in stock ready to ship.
Price is $175 + shipping, Paypal preferred.
Normally I sell these as custom commissions for $200, this is a chance to get them at a discount without the wait.

The pattern is based of several extant examples, as far as I know these are the only standards available based on extant examples.
Take a look at this thread for some of the research Discussion of extant mail standards

These are made from blackened 6mm mail composed from alternating solid rings and riveted round rings.
They are both identical in size:
neck band measuring 2.5" high & slightly over 20" long with the cape 6" in width

These three photos are of one of the two items for sale.

Here are some more photos of another standard from the same pattern but slightly different size that I made for my own use:

Re: FS- In Stock - 6mm mail standards

I normally get $200 for these as custom sized commissions.
These will fit a wide variety of sizes, just the amount of overlap in the back will change.

This is a good way to hide metal plate or stiffened leather throat / neck protection required by many modern organizations.

For example, here is one I used to cover a Winter Tree Crafts brigandine gorget:

Yep ya'll should jump on these. I bought one. I have been slack and havent finished it off yet but the quality is great and with the leather edging I have put on it around the neck everything seems to sit perfectly. The 6mm mail moves and sits so much nicer then the larger stuff. It is a top quality product :)

Thanks for the endorsement :D

I will continue to make most items only on a custom basis.
However I expect from time to time to have a few of my smaller offerings and maybe some prototypes of new designs available.

Here is a link to my original sales post:
Historically patterned mail

I expect to finish up my current round of commissions by mid-June.

Tom B. Could you take more pics of the one you did with the WTC gorget? I have a WTC gorget and have been thinking about the same thing with a standard I have. But, am a bit perplexed on how to go about it.

I have already sent it out but I may have more photos.
Also maybe can get the owner to take a few more.
It was a bit of work to do and took some thinking to figure out a couple of ways to do it.

The difference between a standard and a pizan is mostly about time frame?

That is a really good question
Here is a thread I started a while back on just that question.
Discussion Pizan vs Standard: what is the difference?

For simplicity sake I am currently calling mail neck protection with a neck band section a standard and more conical shaped pieces without a neck band a pizan.

I hope to have some prototype pizans made in the near future.
Any interest in Historically patterned mail Pizans?

Yeah, once I posted them on Facebook they both sold in a couple of hours :D
Not to worry I will make more, also I hope to have a couple Pizan prototypes done soon.
