I am looking for an armourer that can make me a SCA legal Rapier Helm. I don't want to rebuild an already made helm. I have asked in the past and interest was shown, but no follow through on the part of the armourer.
Thank you.

Try Tom Justus. His website is here;
http://justus.pair.com/

He's a *stellar* armourer who's been working on fencing-legal helms with detachable faceplates & matching gorgets. You'll pay a pretty penny, but his stuff is fantastic. Tell him alejandro sent you. :D

Get in touch with Jamie at "By My Hand Designs". He got hold of a few of the Italian Burgonets from Museum Replicas and plans on getting perforated steel faceplates mounted on them.

His website is: http://www.bymyhanddesigns.com/

E-mail address in on the homepage. Tell him Kevin O'Shaughnessy recommended you to him.

By my Hand isn't doing orders anymore (so far as I know), so I am making one here in Seattle. I was making it for a friend, but they've backed out. If you want it when it's completed, let me know. It's the "Scottish Reaver's Burgonet"

It seems to me that there is a general fear of building SCA legal rapier helms from scratch, since there aren't any armourers that want to do them or stop after a few tries. I believe that in the re-emergance of wanting authenticity in the SCA, that some one would jump on this future market.

:(

Maybe it's because we rapier fighters will spend big bucks on swords and daggers but the prices an armouror would charge for a custom helm, when compared to a 3 weapon mask at average $100, seems high!

I'm not saying that it wouldn't be worth it, but that, when compared to the cost of the rest of the safety mandated armor, it's a bigger expense for what is, in effect, just for looks.

Just my thoughts.

I use a modified India helm, and love it.

I found that trying to fit a generically made helm, didn't work out. With sometimes having to over pad it to make it fit right, blows delivered were not felt. I also would like it look good and be safe for when I ride my horses. So...looking good, accepting blows, good fit and comfortable are needed. I can afford to have one made, if I would just get a response from an armourer. :)

Oh contraire! :D Did we miss an order for someone or fail to respond to an email? I have three of the Italian burgonets left and they need to have face plates put on. That is being worked out by one of Cadwallon's apprentices. When he figures out the cost on this I can let people know what they will run.

Change of subject-I have found out that my junkmail filter is sending addresses to my junk senders list unprompted. Anybody experience this?
