DIY Gauntlets in 1050

Post by Zweihammer »

I have decided to go ahead with cutting out 15 pairs each of my gauntlet kits in both sizes in .030 1050 spring. Those of you with the means to heat treat can form these and temper them assembled. This will offer what I hope is superior strength at 3/5ths the wieght of the 18 ga. S/S I currently offer. If you don't have the means to heat treat them, they won't offer the protection. Here is a picture of the two sizes in stainless I currently have in stock, the 1050 will be identical.

Due to the fact I can't get the same discount on 1050 as I can on 304 S/S, I will have to charge $44 a pair as opposed to $40.

Eric,

As usual, fantastic work.

Just sent you an e-mail about getting together. Not sure it was the right address so I'll use this space to let you know.

El Camino Steel in Salinas quoted me $85 for a 4 x 8 sheet of 18ga 1045 delivered. Seems like a good deal given the alternative of paying the shipping costs from Chicago for steel from Admiral. I wanted to know if you wanted to join in on an order, though it sounds like you finally found a source.

Hey zweihammer, nice nice nice looking gaunts!!! I have a curse upon me tat does not allow me to make mitten gaunts. I have no idea why, but none of my patterns seem to work. Granted, they're all patterns I designed, but if one can build finger gaunts, he SHOULD be able to do mittens... not me.
Sooo to the point. How much for your pattern in posterboard??? We have enough steel :)
