Hey guys, does anyone know where I can find good early period rus garb? Early 9th century prefered.
I've seen pattern sites but I can't sew a bit.

Peter Beatson has, in my opinion, the best Rus kit known today. Email him if interested or visit his website (it's being revamped at the moment) at
http://www.birkatraders.com
The kit as pictured is $3500 UAD or so, about half that without the silk trim.
Hope this helps,
Karl

Funny this is all coming up today! Just an hour ago I emailed Katy Hanna of
www.merchantadventurers.com (actually, her brother Matthew Amt, because her email wasn't working!) for a quote on a similar machine sewn, casual material tunic like the Green one Peter is wearing there..! (With that exact one in mind, too!)
I want mine a darker green, with black and white trim, similar to the collar/cuff you see when you click the image link on that page...

Oopsy. I knew Matt told me her name was something familiar (Catie is my sister's name, too!) but her email is "AmtHanna" and I got confused, since I hadn't heard it in a while!
Glad my email didn't go directly to her, in that case... How embarassing..!

Already have that site bookmarked. But thank you.

Then I'd suggest Katy's site...
www.merchantadventurers.com, they sell custom sized and designed tunics for very fair prices. The quality is great, too!

If you're talking about Australian dollars, then $3,500 would convert to $2650 US dollars as of today...
Also, folks, forget I mentioned Katy Hanna for the project shown! She said that although she'd love to give something so complex a try, right now she doesn't have the time, and won't for some time (kids and all). Sorry for bringin' anyone's hopes up...
Now, I need more suggestions! Anyone else know of custom tunic-makers?

--ops, sorry, my brain is still stuck in the days when the conversion rate was about a 2 to 1 ratio;)
