I dare say its a replica of an <I think> Austrialian bank robbing pair "Ned Kelly" that used a suit looking like this out of boiler plate. Used it as a tank on legs so to speak. Someone can correct me on this.

Cheers

actually......

Ned and a gang of 4 made this stuff out of plow shares (blades) and mudboards, which must of taken some serous beating to get the things round.

as for deflecting bullets if I recall the article... didnt do so well.

Oh sorry, I dont know anything about the "real" guys.

There's another movie about Ned Kelly that starred Mick Jagger. Awful flick, so it deserved awful armor.

Come on, now! This is an essential piece of Australian history, representative of the rebellious spirit of the colony!

You could have clicked on the "Ned Kelly Story" on the webpage:

http://www.nedkellysworld.com.au/history/history.htm

Or look here for pictures of the original armour:

http://www.bailup.com/armour.htm#armourned

There was also a very recent film version starring Heath Ledger - released internationally, but presumably sank without much of a trace.

Whether it's worth the asking price or not, it looks like they go to some effort to duplicate the particular pieces, dings and all.

Of course, Mr Kelly went down in the shootout because ... they got him in the legs ...

Actually the armour did really well against bullets it was the fact that his legs were un armoured that stuffed the Kelly gang.
