At $60, I thought some folks might want to take advantage of this. They only have a few left in the small/medium sizes.

Are they reliable?

As a vendor, I don't know. I ordered one a few days ago so I guess I'll see. As far as the product, I did a search here and the reviewers seemed satisfied. Not strongly positive, but satisfied. The people in those reviews paid $100 so I figured I'll be pretty happy with it for $60.

Yes, they are extremely reliable. However, keep in mind that if you are after authentic items they might not be to your liking as they cater to the Ren Fair and SCA crowd. Neither of which are a bad group of people, mind you...

Nah, could care less.. have one potential deal for a jacket for la canne, and this would be a cheap way of getting some of the other folks into them... but "size S/M" (as opposed to "size S or M" doesn't fill me with comfort size-wise...

Even though this is a padded gambeson, wouldn't those plastic buckles hurt if you took a shot to the mid-section or would your armour be enough protection?

Since I don't fight, I thought I would ask before recommending this to others.

Thanks,

I'm not finding out. I plan on taking those off pretty much immediately.

One of the guys who used to play with us had one of these, and they did hurt like an SoB. We quickly replaced them with ties. It held up pretty well, other than that. He was wearing it under an Icefalcon placard and arms. The only thing that didn't really hold up well were the grommets we put in it to attach his splinted arms to. We, eventually, had to abandon the idea of attaching them to that gambeson.

Having seen the full line of them, I recommend going with black, if you're going to buy one. The other colors just look too bright and blatanly modern.

If you look under the armor accessories section they also have their pull over style gambeson's on sale, all in black. The XL is $76.46.

I bought one of the original gambesons they sold and the stitching under the arms came completely apart. They did a great job of replacing the product but I didn't get another one because I didn't like the design (they had a fabric cover over the outside and inside so you didn't see the quilted part and it added two more layers of black fabric making it even hotter to wear). I ended up getting some books from them instead.

All in all they are a very reputable company, and if they had the long sleeve xl gambeson available in green or blue I'd buy one.

just my 2 cents

afaik they're poly fill padding.

You'll cook in one, probably why they're pricing them to get rid of them.

I've got one, and I am quite happy with it ... except the cooking part. You really do roast in it. Works great in the winter tho ...
cheers

Okay, here's my report:

The fill is cotton. The material is cotton on the outside, and poly on the inside, but it comes with a shell over the inside poly material. I have already removed the ties, that shell and the sleeves. When I put it on, as it arrived, the chest fit was good but as designed it would have bound me at the elbows. I have a 39" chest and 14" arms. I will be grommeting the sleeves back on minus the extended unpadded portion and re-hemming the areas where the sleeves were attached. Then, I think I'll have a pretty decent gambeson.
