Hello everyone,

Because I don't use it much, since archery isn't my thing, like I thought it would be, I've decided to sell my Csaba Grozer made Turkish Base bow. The Base series utilizes fiberglass in order to ensure a solid but affordable construction for Grozer's bows.

The sale includes the bow, quiver, 6 functional arrows, an arrow with no head, an eighth arrow with a broken nock, a pair of extra broadheads, 3 strings, the bow case, and a thumb ring. The arrows are the finest Grozer offers, and have horn nocks and goose fletching, I believe. Three of the working arrows have practice tips, while the other three have aging broadheads. One of the practice tips is slightly crushed on the tip, from hitting a bad target (or, rather, missing the appropriate one).

This bow has only been used for a dozen hours or so of shooting, and has been strung for that time, plus for costuming on a couple of occassions. Overall, it is very new. It has the three strings with it, all which I'd suggest waxing before further use, since they haven't been in quite a while! The thumb ring is a medium size, and is big on my 16 year old thumb. The bow has a cloth bag to store it in that ties at one end.

The quiver is an over-the-back type, with adjustable fittings on it, and is all leather, made by Grozer. It's in splendid condition, and is just a bit dusty on the inside, but I'll be sure to vacuum it out before I ship 'er out!

The bow draws 40 lbs. at 28" draw. It was purchased for target shooting, and does that just dandy! I'm sure it could also be used for small game hunting, as well. The beautiful paint job also makes it really attractive for faires and such things, and when I wore it with a couple of outfits to events, I got lots and lots of compliments (and people asking what booth I'd gotten it from... Ha!)

I personally paid $550 for this bow and the additional pieces, and that was before the Euro began to dominate so much. I also had to wait four months for completion. A current 45 Euros are now required to get the paint on the bow, which would bring todays price, at my USD/EU pay rate two years ago, to about $600.

I'm offering the set for $450 to begin with.

I'm using the money to help put together my first SCA kit, so I'm really in a tight spot trying to work on my current budget! A buyer would really help me along on my journey to joining the SCA, and I'd love for this bow to get an owner that can appreciate the fine quality of this bow more than I currently do!

Sorry Thomas, no shields needed! I'm still tryin' to get a couple outta' my house, actually. It'll leave me at one unfinished shield, and that'll be it until I get my kite shield made, and then my SCA shield when the time approachs to use it.

Unfortunately, somehow, I don't think my Indian riveted mail shirt is going to cut it, though I've got other random 14th-century bits that could be thrown in the works... (last guys who wanted to trade for it dropped off the face of the earth).

I have several of Grozer's bows, and haven't fired his Turkish. Of the major bow manufacturers in Hungary, I think his bows are definitely the best. (There was another guy who made truly first-rate Turkish bows, but he's out of business now, went back to harp-making).
If anybody's got the cash, I strongly recommend the purchase.

Wow, that's some pretty stuff, Gregory. Did you paint the bow or did it come that way? It's gorgeous!

Russ, thanks for the good words. If you have access, then please send me a picture of your riveted shirt. If it's the MRL style, I may be interested, depending on the condition. I'd really like one that's flattened steel, as well. The reason I'm selling this, in particular, was to get the money for my custom Matuls made aketon/arming cap, and a couple of hundred dollars for a custom riveted aventail for the bascinet I'm having made by Rylak.

Timothy, the bow came painted. That's what costs the additional 45 Euros these days to get added to the bow.

Oswyn, I'm afraid I won't be splitting up the set. Sorry!

I can take pictures of it, no problem. Don't knwo what the MRL style is, though. I guess i"ll have to visit their site and look.

The shirt is damaged from ballistic archery tests, but I have spare links and rivets for its repair on hand. (if it turns otu you're interested, I'll throw in a copy of the research with it).

Yeah, I'd be interested in seeing the mail, for sure. Also, what other types of 14th century items do you have that you said you'd be willing to trade?

Also, I was thinking about the idea of separating up the items, and am rather wary of doing so... I'd like to sell the whole thing as a set.

Splinted arms (full, pretty good), sabatons by Mad Matt (munitions-level), simple spaulders (nice, leather-bound with rawhide lacing)... I'd have to check to see what else I had on hand. I have an aluminum COP, but that's promised to Marvin, we're both lazy and neither of us has sent our trade yet.*

I looked at the picture you provided. As much as I'd like to say the offer is appealing, as much as it is tempting, I think I'm gonna' have to hold off. I think getting my order from Matuls is priority, at the moment, so the money is necessary. I think for riveted mail, I may have to save up for a Historic Enterprises piece, because of the awesome look it's got to it. But I'll have to sell some more stuff before I make that order!

I'm going to have to back off of the offer to trade this thing for riveted mail, at the moment... I also won't be splitting up the set for individual pieces to be sold. It will stay together, I hope. The arrows were made specifically for the bow, as was the rest of the stuff. I'm still hoping for the $450.

As much as I've thought about that, I really don't frequent any archery forums. I'd rather not join a forum, rush in and sell something, and then not come back. I also wouldn't have anyone who could "trust" that I actually go through with transactions, etc...
