Fundraising Sale: Rebated Katzbalger

Post by Sebastian K »

As some of you may know I have been having a very hard time fostering fighting in my Shire. Part of this is because the shire is very new (it used to be part of a Barony that no longer exists) and all the money and loaner gear stayed with another group. So the Shire I am in has neither loaner gear nor the money to make/buy some. I have decided to change this, but i am not a wealthy man. So I have decided to sell a gew parts I no longer need in order to raise money to build a set of loaner equipment.

First I have a very nice rebated Katzbalger sword. It is a few years old, but in nice shape. It has never been used for fighting. The blade is made from spring steel type 14260.7 and has two fullers. The russeted pommel is hard soldered to the tang. It was bought from a Czech Smith of High repute named Jiri Krondak. I have used and seen used these baldes for years and yeras without breakage. The Katzbalger weigs in at a very light and handy 1.3kg (2.86 pounds). I made pictures this evening, I put a AA battery next to the sword for an impression of the size. You can also see the few spotsof slight surface rust on the guard. If you buy a sword like this directly from the maker it will cost about 250$ and shipping. I had hope to get about 200$ including shipping to the US. I might consider trades depending on what you have OBO.

Thank you for looking

Sebastian

I can't believe no one has picked up this Katzbalger, if landsknecht was on my current plate vs. maybe next year I would be all over it.

I AM going Landsknect, but since that Katzbalger would only be a hip hanger I can't justify the expense. If I did rebated steel, It would have been bought already. :)

(on Pennsic) I know that movie. It is the 13th warrior. A bunch of guys in armour that doesn't match itself or anybody elses, go on a trip and argue and get drunk and get laid and then fight Tuchux.

The Katzbalger is a beautiful sword. If I had more money or the inclination to ever do Landsknecht again I would keep it.

I would also consider trades for 14th Century items that would relieve me of buyng stuff i have slated for purchase anyways. Sutlery, tableware and garb come to mind, but if someone has a niece armour piece or a an OT Shore type A durometer lying around I woiuld be open to taht as well.

I will get on the exact measuremnts for the Chapel tonight.

Here is a picture with the measuremnts. Please be aware that I flipped the measurements in the graphics by 90 degrees, of course the helmet is longer than it is wide! 19cm are approx 7.5 inches, and 21 cm are approx 8.3 inches.

I hope this helps.

James, I will know hopefully this weekend what I still need Possibly an upper garment for a big man and/or some chausses and/or some braies.

Thanks for the interest!

Sadly, I made a cut out from the measures you gave and I believe that helm would be a beenie on me. A very pretty beenie, but a beenie none the less. Thus, I sadly must pass on the helm. Good luck raising money!

Pfffft. The old, slow man again. *sigh*

However, it's a nice piece. What's the source?
