Hey guys I just finished up these new 14th century reproduction bronze cauldrons, take a look:

They come with a fully tinned interior so they're actually usable as cookware! I haven't started selling them to the general public yet, so if you want to get the discounted rate of $250 (+ $30s/h within continental U.S.) let me know ASAP (retails at $285 US dollars). Also available is a complete cauldron set including a hanging handle and a turned maplewood lid.

Click here for ordering information and additional items:

They are approximately one gallon, little over actually. Over all height is about 10 1/4, diameter of the bowl 9" The original is in the Museum of London and is dated to the 14th century. Come on and pass the word, let's get a few of these out there at the campsites. :)

Beautiful---now have you thought of doing one of the pot in "Iron and Brass Implements of the English Home" that has "The Wages of Sin is Death" cast into the handle? Great for mulling wine...

I'll be getting a more solid time frame once I get the master up to the foundry, but last I talked to him a few weeks ago, he told me he should be able to have them to me in 6-8 weeks on the long end. So, hopefully we'll have them sooner than that :). Thanks. Patrick

Nice product. I like the cast iron idea too.
I bet a rabbit stew with wild oninons would be great in that.

Hal

Ps: Best of luck on your casting.

Cast iron cauldrons are fairly available and some---like the african ones, are fairly close to period ones that were done in other metals.

The real joy of Patrick's ones are thay are of an appropriate metal for the period; cast iron being centuries later ---another step closer for folks who care!

Thanks Strongbow, I'll be intouch as soon as I get the cauldrons back from the foundry. I'll also post updates here on the forum when I have any new information.

Oh, any Europeans looking to order, I don't know a positive cost yet on shipping to you guys, but I was quoted between 60-80$ to the UK using the US postal service, (UPS and Fed EX were easily double that) if that gives you some idea. If you want to get them at the preorder price I can email you with the difference in shipping when I get the cauldrons in hand. Thanks. Patrick

I got asked about offering these in an untinned version, just the bronze, so I've gone ahead and put that up as a purchasing option. I talked with the foundry and they now have the master, they said I've got about a week or so before I had to give them a number for this first run of them, so get your orders in while you can :)

I talked with the foundry earlier and was told I need to have him a number for this first batch by 5:00pm central time today (thursday March 9th) so if you want them get the orders in as the presale price will close today at 5:00 I've already asked about a second batch of them as there has been a good show of interest, so if you don't snag one now we will have more coming soon. Thanks. Patrick

Patrick,

Are these investment cast? If I send you a model, could you get it cast for me? SHould it be wood? Wax? I am thinking Bronze Age spear tip, and maybe a BA sword hilt.

Thanks,
Tim

Well the foundry is running a little behind but I did get out to see them pour the first batch of cauldrons today. He went ahead and started cleaning one up so I could get a picture. It shouldn't be long now. I need to get them and get them tinned and we'll be set :)

One other question: How much do the cauldrons weigh?
