And I recommend Robert Norwalt. I have a really nice seax from him. His email is wuffingas@earthlink.net. He is also a AA member.

For 1050, you'd probably want a Honey Lane(10th to 11th centuries) type of sax. Something similar to this http://www.polarbearforge.com/gallery/gallery_084.jpg in point and blade shape.

You could also get away with a Hurbuck style, which was found from the 8th to the 10th centuries. It's blade shape is similar to this, http://www.polarbearforge.com/gallery/gallery_073.jpg

Where you wanting a single steel blade or pattern welded?

I can't believe I forgot to mention Grendel of Red Troll Forge. He is by far the best pattern weld smith I have met. That is not a slap at any other smith, but I can't rave enough about his work. My camera can't do justice to the blade I have from him so I will see if he has some good pics on his website. It is Redtrollforge.com

The top picture is of my seax from Grendel. Unfortunately you can't see the pattern, which is beautiful. The others are from other knives he has sold.

Most of us pattern weld steel though.

That wasn't meant as a slap at anyone, only high praise for him. I have always been impressed with anyone who does pattern welding. I have a blade from him, and from Robert Norwalt and I love both of them.

I don't think that my sarcasm was taken the way I meant it. The way that I meant it, is that most of us pattern weld steel, we don't pattern weld smiths. That would take much too large of a forge to start with a decent layer count....

That's what I get for posting a reply before I finish my coffee
