I need a Helm!

I am a new SCA member trying to put together some gear to get practicing. I am looking for a decent used helm. I am a little tight on funds and only have around $100-150 to spend. If anyone out there has an old helm that they are not using, I would be interested, as long as it is SCA legal. I am not picky about style at all. My head circumference is 23 1/2 inches.
If anyone has ANY used armour that they don't need, I would be interested in possibly purchasing it too.
Thanks!

You might want to look into Ironmonger's basic bascinet. It is a new helm, that you can get in your size, for directly in your price range.

Well, I can provide you with a helm like this one for $150 brand new... or an eyeslot or open-faced barrel helm for $85. (the pictured helm would be in mild steel mind you...)

Otto,

That helm is nicer than maybe 85-90 % of the stuff on the field at Pennsic. Nice helm, great value.

I agree with Tim, nice helm and value. I will be letting the new fighters in my barony know about that.

Gundo,

When it says it won't pass a 1" dowel, does that mean a 1" dowel will not fit in there or it won't pass because one will fit in there? I know dumb questions but thought I should ask.

And don't worry you aren't the worst armourer ever. I beat you out since someone actually told me I should pay them to take the helm I sold on E-bay.

Nice helm Otto. I plan to buy one from you. Just wanted to toss my two cents in out in public.

Otto's helm does look nice. Can someone post a link to his website?

Hmmm... I see my last post never made it.

First off, many thanks for the kind words.

On the website, right now, it's rather defunct due to computer problems.

I do make a variety of helms:
"celtic" (as shown above)
norse
norman
barrel helms (open-faced or eyeslot type)
crusader pot helm
and I'll be adding sallets and bascinets shortly

I also make a number of other useful bits like gorgets, etc. etc.

As soon as I get my website problems cleared up, I'll be at Ottosarmoury.com

Right now I have an old inaccurate site at www.members.tripod.com/sbvast but, be warned... it's pop-up hell.

I mean a 1" dowel will not pass through the holes.
