WTB Forth Armory Clap-Visor Basinet-Opinions Please

Post by ticeetal »

Greetings all,

I am interested in purchaseing a clap-visor basinet from Forth Armory. (http://www.forth-armoury.com/Product_Ca ... pvisor.htm).

I was wondering if this basinet would work for SCA heavies fighting, and would it be possible to construct a bargrill to swap out with the clap visor? Also does any one know if the helm is made by Forth Armory, or is it an Indian import? Any comments and opinions would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Matthew

It is designed for SCA combat. As far as I remember, it is 14ga. throughout. Steve outsourced these to India, but they are of a pretty high quality, unlike most of the other stuff that come out of there. I have handled them before, and they are an unbeatable price for the quality you get. Building a bargrill would be a custom job, as Steve has no intention of making ones for them. The hinges would also have to be replaced.

So a Good Purchase Then???

Post by ticeetal »

Do you know of any venders who sell hinghes for a klapp-visor? I seem to remember Revival or someone having such an item somewhere.

So in your opinion a good pruchase then??? You can't beat the price, and all the other features which are coustom on other basinets.

Thanks,
Matthew

Jentien,

>Patrick Thaden made a grill for my Forth Armory Bascinet.

Do you know off hand if he also makes the hinges to fit the origional visor as well as the bargrill? If so do you know about how much, and does he fit the visors to the helm, or is it a DIY project?

Looks like my search is almost over before it even got started.

Thanks,
Matthew

One issue- I was under the impression that Steve was on an extended hiatus, and that the helms wouldn't be available for a bit.

Yeah, I am not sure who exactly has any for sale, but if you know someone, they are a great buy. Steve has been out for a while (first kid), and no-one is sure when he is starting production again.

I know Patrick makes hinges etc......he fitted the visor to the actual helm. I had dropped it off to him in Denton Texas on my way to Gulf Wars.
