Hello folks,

Let's make this interesting. I'm going to auction this piece off instead of sell it outright. I put a lot of time into this, and there's a lot of very nice leather, too! Some of the rivets turned out poorly peened and many others are much more exact. So, I'd say it would make a great piece of armour to wear for combat and such, where more bruising of its vast hide can be expected!

SO, starting at $1.00! Auction ends next Tuesday night (the 5th?) at 12:00 AM.

The armour has not been gone over with any form of leather sealer, so the buyer will have to apply his own protection to the leather to keep it from bleeding dye, etc. Otherwise, it's ready to go.

I have a 38" chest and could wear it with atunic, gambeson and mail. I'd suggest using that to figure out how well it would fit with your own undergarments. I'm 6' tall and it fits me as shown as far as up-to-down goes, seems just about right.

I would like to open the bid at $1.00, as said before! It will be that plus $30 shipping/handling. It'll likely need a big box!

Dood I am SO sorry you're having to sell all this stuff. You have an excellent eye for a young'un. This is one of the most awesome looking COP's I've seen. My loss I never got to meet you before I left West Kingdom. Hopefully some kind hearted soul will buy this and hang onto it for you until later.

Lord... Two evenings left. Is this really worth so little? I'll never spend so much time or use so much material on another project again, if so. It's not up to half of what I was hoping to get.

I don't think it's an issue of what it's worth from a time and materials stand point, I think that the SCA is just the wrong market place for this item for one reason.... you are 6 feet tall with a 38" chest. In the "real world" I am a relatively large mammal at 6'4" 265 lbs (a 52" chest, 54" with gambeson) but in the SCA I have on occasion felt svelt (sp?).

The SCA tends to attract large male fighters. Your work looks great and were it larger I would give serious thought to buying this. I, like many others in the SCA though, wear my body armor under my gambeson and chain. A lot of people hide plastic under some form of clothing so attractive body armor.... unless it's steel and SHINY.... just isn't that common.

keep up the good work and don't get discouraged. I for one think this auction would go much better for you on E-bay under LARP. Just my two cents.

I've seen my fair share of both small and large fighters, so it's not really the size that's discouraging me much. I suppose it's just the wrong item, rather than the wrong market. Half the folks who do LARP stuff wouldn't even know what a coat of plates is...

I bid $90 but feel ashamed to. If it was not the current season I would have more to bid. The works great, it reminds me more of a 15th century brigidine than a COP though.

Now come on some one out bid me. Do you have a page or squire that still needs a christmas present? How about a son or daughter wanting to start fighting. Do some good and bar this piece from entering my armour hord.

I think you nailed it pretty well.

It's not that it isn't a fantastic peice, because it is. It just doesn't fit anyone but the maker. It would be VERY snug on me with nothing under it, if it fit at all, and probably 6 inches too long.

Torso armor is something that is really really difficult to size properly, and of you have one size of off the rack, it's almost guaranteed to fit none.

Don't feel too bad though. Being utterly and absolutely one of the most average sized people on the planet, I can't buy jeans or shoes easily, because they're always sold out...

I'm going to go with a flat rate of $30 for shipping, as previously mentioned (I think). This will do me good for Paypal charges, boxing, gas to get to and from the station (A few dollars worth!) and the actual shipping. Actually, $30 probably isn't enough, but I'll assume it's close enough!

It's none of my business but that seems pretty crappy to me. He bought it as a gift for his son. Given the time of year, I would presume a Christmas gift. He paid you promptly, and you are going to "try" to send it out by the 15th which this time of year almost ensures that it won't get to him in time for Christmas.

Bank transfers to my account take 3-4 days. I usually assure shipment of items within 7 days of the transfer being made. Next Friday came to mind, although I didn't know what date it would be exactly. "Try" was a poor choice of word. It WILL be out by next Friday, if not on Monday, or some time in between. I also always ship priority mail, which in this case will probably cost more than the $30 I charged him for shipping.
