It is not about possessing it. It is not about something to look at. It is about using something that has a purpose and functions the way it was intended to.

A fine book, if a tad out of date. Bishop and Coulston's newly revised edition is now available, I hear.
In his best Monty Pythonesque voice: Out of date?.... "Robinson" contains photos of gear and detailed descriptions in one place. Photos of most of the armor and helmets exist but in numerus publications and often not with 3 or 4 views. Some equipment does not appear anywhere else. The original photo negatives of the original pages were lost making republication unlikely.
Bishop and Coulston, Roman Military Equipment 2nd Ed is an excellent overview, yours truly being acknowledged in same edition,(thanks Mike) but it is not to be compared to The Armour of Imperial Rome.
By the way the 2nd Ed is much better than the 1st.. it is a true 2nd ed.

First, Bishop and Coulston's work take up a much larger period of time, than Robinson. If you are only interested in the Imperial Period to Diocletian reforms, then Robinson is a very good source.
Second, while Robinson is very well-illustrated, the sources of those illustrations--namely archaeologcial dig reports--is now incomplete. The book was published in 1975--there's 30 years of new information missing.

The Armour of Imperial Rome is an excellent resource... a good adjunct to Antike Helme by the way.
... even if only for the multiple photo views of actual artifacts. There are also photos of Peter Connolly reconstructions that can not be found anywhere else.
Roman Military Equipment does not compare... apples and oranges... though they compliment each other
