Romans, Greeks: Need Some Thracian or Persian Booty?

I just scored this on ebay.

It's a modern repro in bronze of an ancient rhyton (driking vessel) very similar to one found in the 4th century BC Scythian barrow at Kul Oba, which is the place and period of the historical impression I am currently building. It was used in the recent film Alexander and is a testament to the great lengths they went to have well-researched props, costumes and armour.

The good news is that I only have so much money and can't afford to buy the rest. The griffon rhyton is ultra bodacious and still available, as is a number of other goodies from Alexander. I'd really love to buy this one to stand in as a Scythian "hemp seed burner" but I gotta stop somewhere!

Anyhow, you folks with ancient personnae Greek, Persian, Roman, Thracian, etc., etc.) might dig having one of these pieces, eh? BTW I couldn't have these cast for the prices these are selling for! I found examples of nearly all of these in my Ancient Greek and Scythian Treasures books.

Deer's Head cup/rhyton (Thracian?)
Bronze flask

Cheers,
Tim

That is awesome! Is it safe to drink from with patina chemicals on it?

I'd say it would be best to coat the inside with wax or a food-safe polymer resin first (like the stuff they use nowadays to coat the inside of cowhorn drinking horns). Besides, I'm shining mine up till I can brush my long Scythian locks whilst looking into the polished bronze! As Matthew Amt is fond of saying, (in acient times) bronze is meant to be shiny!

Cheers,
Tim
