WTB: SCA legal Kabuto

Post by Glaukos the Athenian »

Well time to get in SERIOUS trouble with the Missus...

Does anyone have a reasonably priced SCA legal kabuto you would be willing to part with? Used or new is irrelevant if it is in good condition and fits my 23 and a bit head. Kabuto style not especially important as long as it is reasonably historical and not crazy fantasy.

Structural integrity more important that surface appearance. I can work on the latter but not really on the former, I am no armorer.

I know Sir Andreas carries a great looking stainless one, but it is beyond my reach at this point.

Thanks!

I know, I know,

I started well before the SCA in kendo, but then I realized, after facing D. Sebastian in my first large Melee at Crusades, that I was about to die, so I thought let's make it a glorious death... That may demad a Japanese kit as well (my third? OMG I am becoming an "archiver"!)

And I hear Raito is organizing a Japanese battle at Pennsic... so there goes caution followed closely by any remainder of reason...

and then I keep hearing this music....

and thinking about this

LOL, I got a Kubuto gonna be built for me as the one person I knew that made them is not making them currently. Still gonna be like 650 and it will not be stainless, it will be blued as stainless is not actually period for the Japanese.

I am not an expert but are those Fukigaeshi SCA legal?

Also, I thought Carlo went to the Canadian Army....

The fukigaeshi are legal, but as you can see from the bottom pic, after 8-10 hours of fighting they somehow have a way of getting beaten down to the sides.

I didn't hear about Carlo; sorry to miss him from the armouring world.

I stopped doing them years ago for a number of reasons.
Is there a demand at this point?

I don't think so.

His website says he is "gone to soldier"

It's actually not as bad as it looks. My face is right close up to the grill, so the visor cuts off just above most tall folks' heads. (The bottom is well out of my field of vision.) Not being able to watch the tips of upraised polearms has forced me to look at shoulders and hips, which say more about what my opponent is about to do anyway.

Good luck to Carlo.
