Greetings AA'ers!
I am looking for a Crash-Pads-esqe hidden thigh armor, that are in 2XL or even 3XL sizes.. I was thinking some sort of biking shorts or something along those lines yet they dont seem to have sizes for us bigguns...
Anyone happen to have an idea where or even if I could find that somewhere ??
Any direction point would be great !
Thanks !
ps: This may be in the wrong topic area, if so please move to a more appropriate section..

If those don't work out size wise for you, what I did was make some hose shorts. Got some basketball shorts from walmart, sewed lines up them about an inch apart. Cut the inside lining at the top to make tubes, cut sections of a garden hose and dropped them in the tubes. Great protection. You can still feel the shots but not nearly so many nasty bruises.

I gotta tell ya --
If you're large size (like I am) you *don't* want some sort of padding as "hidden armour" -- it'll make the already large legs look just... well, y'know.
For *any* hidden armour, I go for the lowest profile possible, and that would mean aluminum/steel/plastic whatever that actually fits on the leg like normal cuisses, just without the extra fiddly bits that external armour would have.

Well I do my best to help here. I own a pair of the XL's My thigh at top is 26" and these fit me with the back barely loosened at all. In fact the leather strips attached to the back wear it is laced are still touching. So it can still be let out quite a bit. I wear close fitting hosen under them as well. So I would think the XXL would fit a vareid size from around 28 closed in back to prob 35 before they really have a gap in the back that I feel would make them uncomforatble. Like I said they can be completely unlaced and lay flat open. In casr you wanted to add splints on top or a thin sheet of heat molded kydex under it is easier. They are about 1/4 " thick and padded firmly. In fact when I lay them on a table and press down they measure at 1" thick but just doing one side at a time they measure in at 1/4" Go figure?
They are $39.00 a pair and for archivers I will split the shipping. The leather disc is just that a re-enforced piece of leather on knee cap but it will bend. The loops at teh top are not belt loops (although a belt will fit through it but rather they are for pointing straps.
I will not be a gulf wars as I am a Knight in the Adrian Empire and I am not a SCA member
Thanks for your intrest and if you check out the link above for them you can also see teh back of them that laces up.
BTW Insane Irish and Randy both own XXL's now so maybe they can help more with the measurements.

What added knee protection would be needed to make these sca legal?

Something crunchy that covers the points of the joint. Knee cops for example.

What Ingvarr, All you need is something on the knee...IIRC, there is nothing required for the thigh....But if your local guys like to wrap the thighs alot(Like mine do) its always nice to have something there..

I have a pair of these. My thighs are roughly 32" around. I have the XXL version.
I have to loosen the lacing about 2 inches or so on the top of my thigh to get them to fit. However I do not consider this a problem.
I got mine drop shipped to me and they were in my hands in 3 days.
The finish on these are great. WELL worth the price. They are about as thick as a folded over moving blanket. So, there is pretty significant padding in there.
All the edges are trimed in tan leather (or at least leather like vinl) And the lacing tap at the top of the legs is wide enough to accept a 1" wide belt.
The leather disc on the knees is sewn and glued into place. However if you want to remove it, it is only glued around the edge and it is not hard to remove.
To make these SCA legal you would need to add knee cops, but for the price these are pretty nice padded legs.
