Hello all.

I have been in talks with Knuut at Welded Chain Mail about having a hauberk and some chausses made starting in November of '07. I received a price quote from him January 30th. I relpied to him accepting the quote. That is the last I have heard from him.

All emails sent are returned with an automated reply stating the email was at least received but no reply has ever come to confirm that he has begun the order.

It's not like I'm out any money but I am just wondering if this is Knuut's normal way of operating or if something has come up on his end. I certainly do not want to pester him if some mundane issue has his attention but I would like to know if my order was received and in production. I do know he's not great at replying to emails but it's almost May now and my last reply from him was back in January.

Anyone hear from him lately or know if this is a normal part of doing business with him?

Actually, if I remember right, its his wifes family, that runs stuff over there. Not sure who else they get involved. But I could of swore I read that off his site, at one time.

My situation is quite different from what has happened with other vendors who deal with manufacturers in India. My wife is Viet Namese and my operation over there is run, and for the most part staffed, by her family and friends. I make the links here (by machine from wire I purchase from U.S. companies) and then ship them to Viet Nam for assembly and partial weld. What they send back are bands of mail about 5″ wide and 6′+ long. From those bands, and curved sections I make and weld here, I assemble and finish weld my products. This is not the most profitable way I could have structured my business but makes my mother-in-law very happy.It also limits unintended technology transfer and gives me fairly good quality control.

So not really outsourcing. Is more a family ran business.
