WTS maille voiders and fauld

Post by Vladimir »

I'm afraid I'm going to have to let go of some of my maille. Money is a bit tight right now.

Technically these are not voiders, they are maille sleeves, but they would serve the purpose quite well.

The fauld unfolds into a 4 foot long rectangle of maille. You can see the maille I am selling in this picture.

I am willing to sell the sleeves seperate from the fauld.

I cut the sleeves and fauld from a Von Sussen maille shirt (nothing wrong with the shirt, I was trying to save weight) and blackened it myself. They are in good condition, with perhaps 2-3 missing links in the whole set. The holes are not at all noticable.

However, since it will be a long time before I can replace this maille I will have to reserve the right to cancel the sale if I feel the offers are too low to help me with my bills. I know it's bad form to do so, but I can't see dumping this maille if my best offer is too low to help.

Vladimer, do you think it would be possible to get a pic with just the maille on without the lammellar over it. I just want to get an idea of where it ends and starts.

More details on the mail would allow us to make a better-informed offer: riveted? Flat link or round? Wedge or dome rivet? I.D.? Etc.

Round wire, riveted with domed rivets. Typical of the Von Sussen from a couple years back. I don't have the inner diameter right now but I could get it tonight and post tomorrow.

Unfortunately I don't have any pics of the maile without the lamellar. It is laced in place with cord. I will try to take a picture of the inside of the suit and post that.

It extends about an inch into the leather on the sleeves and about an inch into the brass on the fauld.

If you look closely at the pic you will see what appears to be a seam in the leather going around each arm. That is a line of stitching holding the maile in place. On the bottom the maille is held in place at the first row of red cord on the brass plates.

It occurs to me that I should give you guys a sense of scale. I'm a bit over 5'10" without the helmet on.

Hmmm, could you please tell us the other direction of the 4' square? I was planning to order a flattened link skirt from Icefalcon after the tax-return came in but I could probably do this instead.

If you set this up as an auction I can bid $200 on the pieces combined or would be willing to bid on the skirt seperately.

I'll get the measurements tonight when I get home and will post them tomorrow when I'm at work.

ok, here are the pictures I took. Sorry it took so long, I was out sick this morning.

Here is a picture of the inside of the suit so you can see how far the mail extends.

Here is a picture of the armpit of the suit, so you can see how far down my side it extends.

Here is a closeup of where the sleeve is stitched onto the leather.

Here is a picture of the inside of the fauld so you can see how far the maille extends up into the body. The quarter is for scale.

The fauld is a rectangle of maille 4 feet wide by about 14 inches wide.

That should cover all the questions I think.
