Hello all. I live in Texas, and I am an avid archer. Unlike most that I shoot with I also enjoy shooting the crossbow. I am wondering if you guys could point me to some reading material on the different types of crossbows that were used in the 1100's and which country's were using the crossbow. I am also looking for literature on how they were armed besides there cross bows, and is they wore armor of any type. If possible, any information on how an English long bowmen would have been armed other then his bow and if they wore armor would be greatly appreciated to. Great forum you have here, and I thank you in advance for any input.

You have of course ILL'd "The Crossbow: Medieval and Modern, Military and Sporting, Its Construction History and Management (ISBN: 0760702500 / 0-7607-0250-0) Sir Ralph Payne-Gallwey"

Your local public library can ILL it for you and it's a good place to get *started*. There has been more modern research since Payne-Gallwey that I'm sure will be mentioned later.
