Yes, thank you very much. That makes it easier to find things from a particular period or style, while people can still use the thesis if they want to search by things in his typology or see why he included what he included. Carefully collecting and publishing evidence is important, and its a shame that big theories often get more academic glory.

Just so you guys know this will take quite a few days to get completed.
Pinterest goes out of their way to prevent bulk uploading.
I have about 25% loaded now.

I was wondering how you were doing that, what with thousands upon thousands of images and links.

I have a way to do it automatically but it has to pause 12 sec between uploads to keep from triggering a Pinterest upload block. :(

Tom,

It was overwhelming enough discovering all these images organized as they were in the Thesis Document format. To have all this material now at my fingertips is downright distracting. My sincere gratitude for taking the time to make these images easily accessible.

I am flabbergasted at the content. So much that I have never seen, so many views that I could never have experienced in person. So many questions raised. This pursuit will never get old.

Maybe at 75% uploaded to Pinterest now.

I may have discovered some photos missing from the Picasa albums.
I will investigate a bit more. If I need to upload more I should be able to add them into an existing album.

I'm going to need an entire day at my desktop to go through all those pins...I've been snagging snippets as I see them scroll across my tablet, but it's like drinking from a firehose. In a good way, but I don't want to miss anything. And then, a lifetime of study. Thanks again for putting these out there in a more easily viewed fashion, Tom.

The Pinterest upload is complete it says there are 17128 photos.
I knew some were missing from the Picasa albums but it seems there may be more missing that I thought. I hope they are in one big group.
This will require a bit of digging.

Pinterest might have a big chunk of duplicates, Tom. I know for a fact that yesterday there was a swath of 14th century stuff that I had already pinned a week ago...and Pinterest did the whole "psst! You've already pinned this" when I went to add them to my board.

I know I did delete lots of duplicates from the Picassa / Google + uploads initially.
It just became too much work to continue. Many of the same photos are reused in several PDF's, this is especially true of the pics showing whole harnesses. These photos will be in the PDfs for each component; e.g., left arm harness, righ arm harness, helmet, left leg, right leg, breast plate, back plate, etc.

Speaking of full harnesses, I was excited to see images of this set. It's the first clear set of extant 14th century enclosed upper arms and cuisses I've seen. I'm going to assume that this harness is one of those things that fall into the "fake" category, unfortunately? That fan on the elbow looks wrong...as does the lack of tulip shaping to the forearms...and the hinges...and weird upward sweep of the shoulder lames from the side?

Amanda M has taken the time to comb through the Pinterest Board I made and create this Pinterest Board:

Textile covered torso protection

This is exactly the sort of thing I was hoping would happen! :D
This is a big part of why I spent a bit of money and not a few hours to get the 17k+ photos uploaded to Pinterest.

Sometime in the near future I hope to set-up some Group Boards so that we can discuss items a little easier.
This should allow Group Members to Edit / Add photos.

I was mainly thinking of making boards for sub-classes of armour e.g., Sallet, Bascinet, Armet, Close Helm.
Maybe another for possible fakes.

What other ideas thoughts are there?

Maybe you should sort them by Goll's classification system (subtitled for English speakers with titles like sallet, bascinet, armet, etc.)?

First off: Daaaayyyummmm!!! Second off. Tom on your Pinterest page you mentioned that there are some fakes mixed in. Before I dive into this (just downloaded it), are there labels or other indications as to which pieces are fake and which are legitimate?

I am afraid there are no lables other than the Goll ref number.
We do have a thread here on the archive discussing fake and suspicious pieces.

I am thinking of putting these images on Google Drive.
Maybe sorting them into subdirectories by Goll's typology.
This should make both searching and browsing easier.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I have started this Google Drive folder (same images as on Picasa / Google+)
https://drive.google.com/folderview?id= ... sp=sharing
Don't make links to these yet as I am still figuring out the organization scheme I want.
Fell free to browse and download.

looks like there maybe an issue with having all of the files in one folder

Google Drive Help wrote:Shared folder view is limited to 500 items

Users who have been granted access to a shared folder with a large number of items inside have reported being able to see only the first 500 items in the folder. We’re looking into the issue. For now, consider dividing items between folders, so that no folder contains more than 500 items, before sharing.
This should not be an issue after things have been organized in to sub folders.
There might be a couple of categories that may span more than one folder.

Tom,

Sorting into categories would certainly be helpful. Goll's typology is not what I would prefer, but if that's the easiest thing to do, then that's probably best. It certainly has a sort of correctness; that his pics should be sorted into his typology.

I looked up "Google Drive" on Wiki. If I understand correctly, this will make the images searchable. That will be a plus. Armed with a Goll number, we will be able to quickly get to an image we can link to.

If I could chose one thing to change about the current layout, it would be to eliminate the duplicates. I realize that that would require a lot of human intervention, and as such is not likely to happen. I'm just sayin'... when I scroll through the pics and see the same things coming up again and again, I feel like I'm lost in the woods and going in circles. It's sort of like "The Blair Witch Project".

The search-ability is a big plus.
Since I own all of the Picasa Folders I can already do a search.
I did put all of the PDF's on Google drive thinking that would allow you guys to search but with the 500 file limit I am not sure that is working.
Goll Thesis PDFs

Please take a look and let me know.
I will try to log out of Google and see what it looks like for you guys myself.

When I started out uploading the files to Picasa last year I was trying to eliminate the duplicates but it was too much effort and I had to stop doing it.
I still am occasionally finding that some images are missing in Picasa.
I have been trying to add them when I find them but due to the Picasa structure and the 1000 file folder limit they sometimes end up in a folder you would not expect.

Well I does not look good. :(
I logged out of Google and used the Goll's Thesis PDF link I have shared.

Not only was I foiled by the 500 file limitation, there also was no search function. :(

I was able to do a ctrl+F to do a search in the current folder but it won't search in subfolders.

I will keep investigating :(

Because I'm a bit dense......

When people say "Oh yes, it's Goll 5567", are people going through all the PDFs of images to find what they want, then looking for the matching Picassa photo?

Are people browsing through the whole of Folder 2 to find just the right gauntlet?

I don't understand how people are finding exactly what they want.

{EDITED TO ADD}

not that I want to sound ungrateful...Tom, has done the community a tremendous service.

Go to Pinterest. There you can just type the ref_arm_ and there you go.

Or go to the ref_arm_ folder into Goll's thesis and type the ref_arm_ you want =).
