Dead Man's boot

I stopped in my favorite barber to get my hair cut yesterday and came across the April 2000 copy of National Geographic. In it was an article about a salt mine excavation. Researchers had discovered the partial remains of a man that had died in a cave in about 1800 years ago. Among the the artifacts was a boot (leg still inside). They had an excellent photo of said boot. A clever person might take a look at that photo and make an accurate re-creation.

Just so you know they think the man might have been a nobleman of some sort. He was 6'3" tall (unusual for that age) and wore jewelry. How or why he ended up in a salt mine is a bit of a mystery.

What is a nobleman doing in a salt mine? Conjures up images of The Godfather 300 A.D.

"What does that lump of salt wrapped up in leaves mean, uncle Ugh?"

"It means Lord Kronk sleeps in the mine..."

Maybe he had been "a salted" Image

Running for my silly stick proof hat.

On monday when I return to work I'll snag that issue in the library and get the librarian to copy the article for me. I might even sketch out a rough pattern of the boot and post it.

Come to the highschool I work at and we can stand in the hall between classrooms and toss bread rolls and hit a dozen "boys" that height.

Must be something in the water.

Ooooh, Persia --

Please, Please, Please -- need all the details.

And if you can re-write the essence of the piece while managing not to plagiarise from the magazine,
I'll put it up at "The Red Kaganate"

Be careful with magazine articles in April issues!!!

Discover magazine featured a story one April about ice moles found in Antartica... I bought it hook line and sinker, April fool. Image

Don't feel too bad Buran. I fell for that one too until I read it out loud to my wife and she gave me "that" look. I had just finished reading a book on Shackelton's trip down there so I was really into the whole Antarctic thing I guess Image

OK got the article copied and posted it on the internet with appropriate kudos to National Geographic Magazine.

Take a peek. I'll try and make a pattern this weekend.

[UPDATE] I found some more info online about the Zanjan Saltman and his boot and provided a link to the site from the web page below
