There are a few recipes for leather dyes, including two which look like acid + iron filings vinagroon, in book 4 of the Liber Diversarium Artium published by Mark Clarke. Its an early 15th century manuscript with contents mostly compiled in the 14th century. Clarke thinks its wonderful because it has more lists of what colours you can shade and highlight other colours with than any other manuscript, your mileage may vary.

Harry had a book manuscript a few years ago, I don't know what has happened since COVID.
