Pouch Designs??

Post by Pietro da San Tebaldo »

I'm making a kidney pouch, and I've reached the limit of the detail on the pictures I'm basing the project on.

In your various opinions, were these sewn right-side out, or turned? Also, are the sides and bottom one piece, with seperate front and back, or are front, back and cover-flap all one piece with seperate side pieces?

Advice, sources, and pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Pietro

the flap/lid and back are one peice. theyre sewn inside out and turned... the pouch is made from a front panel peice and a strip sewn onto the back panel.

Ditto to what Sam said. I made my pattern myself and the flap and back panel were on piece connected by the straps. The front and back pieces were connected by a strip of leather about 2 inches wide. It was all sewn together inside out and then turned. Here is a pic of the finished product, let me know if you want me to take a pic of the pattern or I could send you a copy in snail mail if you want.

Thanks, Edric.

A picture of the pattern would be neat.

Also, have you any thoughts/opinions about sewing across the bottom of the blet loops to create a closed tube casing? From the photo you posted, it appears that, if the flap was straight vertical, you could slide the purse out from behind the belt...

PS: what weight leather is that piece made from?

The whipstitching across the top of the flap goes through the back of the pouch. You could stitch across the loops also, but I made them too small to fit through my belt that way so I just left them open. I think it looks better this way anyway. I'll take some pics right now and post them in a few minutes. Oh almost forgot, I used about 5 oz. oil tan leather for this, it was leftovers from making my splinted arms and cuisses.

Ok well sorry about this but I have just been informed that theglobe.com where my pictures and web site are store is going down for good August 15th. Not only that but I can't get onto the ftp or the filemanager to upload the pattern. However I did upload it to geocities, but it won't directly link here. You will need to click the link, a screen will come up that says something like it can't find the file. In the new browser add a ? to the end of the address and hit enter, you should then be able to get the pic, sorry about the inconvinece.

For scale, the long strap that connects the two pieces is 2 inches wide.
