Gambeson Padding

Medium grade cotton batting, at $27.79 per 22 lb. roll, or $147.39 for a 130 lb. bale, as well as quality grade at $33.49 per 22 lb. roll is available from:

www.vandykes.com

They also carry Jute quality finish tow for $5.59 per lb., $26.19 per 5 lb. and $158.49 for a 43 lb. roll. You'll probably have to go to search and type in the names becuase I don't think this will take you there directly:

They also carry rusted iron hinges and latches for trunks, clinch nails and a complete line of restoration products.

I was also thinking about making a bouched shield from one of these serpentine drawer fronts:

http://www.vandykes.com/product/02321476/

3/4" poplar plywood, 9 ply core, with red oak veneer on the INSIDE if used for a late 14th C. shield. 17" wide, 31" high, trimmed down on the bottom with a "{" shape, and notched on the top right hand corner for the lance. Leather or perhaps gesso painted over the poplar face. At $28.59 ea. it would be a lot cheaper than making a complex shield press.
