Samurai shield

about a year ago, somebody posted a picture of a Japanese samurai wielding a shield. The person who posted the pic said that the shield was a passing fad, and was only used during the early stages of combat to protect from arrow fire, not for actual hand-to-hand combat. I'd like to get another look at that shield, please. Thanks greatly,
