Hi all. Does anyone know what the common materials used for embroidery were in the late 14th century(cotton, linen, metallic or ribbon threads)? Also, does anyone know a source for embroidery patterns that are typical for the period? Im thinking about doing some embroidery on the sleeves of a coathardie I'm going to be making, but i want to make sure i keep this garment strictly "period".

Check out "Fashion in the Age of the Black Prince". It goes into quite a bit of detail on embroidery and some discussion of designs from the Great Wardrobe. As for patterns, look to illuminations of the period. Artists gerneraly depicted embroidered clothing accurately.
