Did you callig the book, or simply bind it? What's the text? Bookbinding fascinates me...
Details on all of 'em please. Go ahead and brag - we don't mind...

What I was most drawn toward was the inkwell. What can you tell us about that? In particular the stopper interests me.
Overall, I am impressed by your projects. That's the general sort of thing that I always wanted to get into making when I was in the SCA - the little things that complete an impression and often don't get the notice that you'd expect from all the work involved.
Cool.

You should watch the drips of stain on the ends of your work. Do you wipe off the stain after you brush it on, or just leave it on? What type of stain? What type of varnish?
Did you curl the iron work yourself? What sort of a mandrel did you set up? How did you heat the metal?

I was wondering if you attempted the one in Diehl's book on medieval carpentry. I may attempt that one once I get a decent torch. I have an oxy/mapp torch that is useful for starting the gas grill, but little more.

Bascot,
The drawings and descriptions in Dan Diehl'books are not as complete as they could be. He is not a woodworker first and does not exlpain the full process as completely. I have made several pieces from the book, the wine cabinet, the large chest (our beer box at war) and several smaller chests in the styles shown. I am just warning you that you should have an idea of woodworking and not relying completely on Dans books for total instruction. If you search the web for Medieval Chests you can find sites that have other references for comparison.

Hey Peder, can you describe how to do the book stitch? You've inspired me, dude- I'd like to put together a book using the fiore fascimile as text (so we don't have have to rely totally on memory at events)
