When did tournament combat at a barrier become common?

Fighting at the barrier - in the mine - during sieges was mentioned in chronicle of Jean Wavrin as happening at least twice in the 1410-s.
It was mentioned as something noteworthy but not extremely so. Hence I think it was already somewhat common. (JW wrote this part of his chronicle probably after 1461)
I think Froissart also mentions the habit, but I am not sure.
Not a perfect answer to your question but hopefully encourages someone to follow...

I'm not aware of it occuring during the 13th century.
Most of the references I've found in the 14th refer to combat at barriers during war situations such as sieges and skirmishes not during a formal deed of arms. The 15th century is when they seem to become common at formal occaisions. I don't have my references handy but I think its mainly mid to late 15th when you get the bulk of the references.
(Not at a decent computer so I lack spell check, sorry)
If you can get your Barker and Barbers Tournaments it should tell you what was going on in the 13th century, but once again going from memory it was mainly horseback combat not foot.
