I'm a huge fan of Cecelia Holland - http://www.thefiredrake.com/

You might try "Jerusalem" or "Antichrist" (Author's summary for both)-

Jerusalem
NY: Forge, hardcover 1996; paper 1997

A Knight Templar, enmeshed in the politics of the Kingdom of Jerusalem, struggles to keep himself right with God in the face of many temptations; ends with the battle of Hattin. I think this is my best novel.

Antichrist
NY: Atheneum, hardcover 1970

The renegade emperor Frederick II goes on crusade and saves Jerusalem.

Happy reading!

Try Sharan Newman's Catherine Lavendure mysteries.
