Suggestions for Authentic Kit

Post by Camillo di Davide »

Greeting All,

I am a SCA heavy combat fighter looking to imp[rove my kit. I am portraying an Italian from about 1450. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions of books, and or websites on armor from this timeframe and area. I am currently trying to upgrade my plastic armor into something more authentic. Thanks you all for any suggestions and comments.

If you can, review a copy of Le armature di S.Maria delle Grazie di Curtatone di Mantova e l'armatura lombarda del '400.

It is a key resource for the timeframe you are researching.

I have many more resources, however most are on my computer at home. I will update this post later today.

Ya, that's the bible on mid-15th C Italian armor. It's definitely a good idea to do the research before buying, so you know what to get and will stay happy with it. When it does come time to buy, the key question is: What's your budget?

Top-of-the-line Springsteel Milanese plate tailored to fit you by a top armorer will run $20k or more, but you can get into a munitions plate SCA kit for a whole lot less, maybe a grand or so.
