looking for the average sized 15th cent stool or form. i have directions for making one 20 inches tall by 38 inches wide. but i'm afraid 38 inches is a long span when working with pine (last minute project before Michaelmass)
any ideas?

They come in all sizes Wolf.
6'-7', or even 8' would be an average length. How thick a plank are you working with? A form is a backless bench, and is intended to seat a number of people. Even something the size you are describing is more a stool than a form. If your board is too thin, then you start having problems with flex - you can alleviate the problem with a third "end set dead center, but it would look silly on something that short. The wood medieval furniture was made from is rather substantial.

My wife's grandfather was making me one from white oak (based from the medieval furnature book), but I never got to meet up with him to get it. so i was just making a small stool for around the tent. its a shame i couldnt get the form he made. he plained the boards for correct thickness and everything.
i'm just using some 1x10s. prob make it about 18-20 inch high by 20 wide. to fit my big butt hehehe. see you on the field to collect those taxes!!
