I am looking for documentation for bazuband used in period. I know they were used, but so far, I am only finding vague references to it, such as an 8th c. Armenian statue, or a Central Asian shield, but I cannot find pictures of the actual pieces, or even find out where these example pieces are, so I am without any concrete sources. Unfortunately, the only pics of extant pieces I am finding are post-1600..
Is there anyone that can point me in the right direction??
Leeds Royal Armories has a few on display. They tend not to have as much elbow protection as SCA tends to have. More vambrace attached to a smaller elbow to protect, more or less, the elbow point.
Look in "Arms and Armour of the Crusading Era" by David Nicolle, the European volume (there's also a Middle Eastern book). There are several in there including one drawing of a European wearing a pair. While his book is line drawings, he gives the source for the original work.
