Since the previous thread seems to have been dominated by the gambeson button issue, I would like to address my other question here separately.

What type of button would be best suited on a lesser noble cotehardie in the late 14th century? Cloth? Wood covered cloth? Metal? If metal, what type - brass? silver? gold? pewter? bronze?

Sorry if I am drudging on a topic too much, I am just trying to gets as much information as I can for accuracy.

Again, many MANY thanks.

Cloth is by far more common than metal in every class. I talked with the guys in La Belle Company about it, they feel that the texts of the era reflect metal buttons as being a rich man's extravagance and they encourage their folks to take the time to make cloth buttons.
