I cam across a webpage but now cannot relocate it. I read that the White Company was named so due to the brightly polished armour they wore. Is this correct and if so can someone please refer me to the text that says this.

Also are there any other groups that have a colour before the word Company, such as the modern Grey Company is Australia.

White Company is in the UK.
Red Company is in California, USA.

Both are 15thC living history groups.

The White Company -was- in the UK but they disbanded several years ago. Several former members are friends of mine, I'll ask them about the name.

The name of the late, lamented modern company was an unfortunate choice, before they had determined precisely what they were going to do, and they were stuck with it - Dave Key will readily back me up on this, as it is what he told me when I was a mamber and asked about it. The influence was the Arthur Conan Doyle novel.

There was a real company of Mercenaries, led by Sir John Hawkwood, in the late 14th century in Italy that was known as "The White Company", due by accounts of the time to the reason Wrymspleen mentions.
