I am sorry if this has been discussed previously but I have not been able to find it if it has:
Can anyone tell me when the Salet began being worn and when they went out of fashion. I have having trouble working it out for myself as there seem to be no definitive Salet as such, rather its an umbrella term used for a couple of different styles.
Is there a diffinitive difference between them and a basinet and both of these and a barbute?
Any help greatly appreciated.
When were salets worn?

well like many helms the Sallet went through an evolution. So, there really is no hard year(s) for the Sallet. The Sallet spanned centuries after it was introduced much like the greathelm. So, you probably need to pick a particular kind of Sallet. Open face, bevored, lobster tail, visored etc. To narrow your search.
Yes there are differences between the Sallet and Basinet and Barbute. don't ask me what they are, but I know there are differences.

(on Pennsic) I know that movie. It is the 13th warrior. A bunch of guys in armour that doesn't match itself or anybody elses, go on a trip and argue and get drunk and get laid and then fight Tuchux.
