Torse and mantle...during what time period would one wear these?

At the risk of sounding dumb
- what exactly do you mean by a Torse?? or mantle?? (I have mental images - but would love to be sure I know what You mean).
Also - do you have any specific painting/illumination in mind as a starter? or are you going by general gut feelings??
