Helm Question

Post by Karl »

Dear friends and experts,

I have a question regarding a helm - would anyone know what museum this piece is in, or if there are any other photos of it available?

I don't believe I've seen that one before, thanks!

There are others that are similar, both in shape and decoration. Som of them have velvet between the appliqued decoration and the steel. I seem to remember that there is suspicion that one of them had the decoration added in the 19thC.
My 10yo daughter says I'm pretty!

it's in the museum in the castle on the hill in the town of Brescia, The town is on the road between Milan and Verona. I forget the actual name of the museum at the moment. I have a couple pics of it at the shop. I'll try and remember them as well as some other pics I said I would post :?

I found it at the Marzoli museum in Brescia, just as you indicated thank you. :)

Any other photos would be most welcome as this is for a commission that I want my armourer to get this exactly right and I will not be back in Italy until November.

Thanks so much again Archivers,
Karl

Here is a pic of the tail of that helmet, the other pic I have is from about the same angle and view of the one you've seen already. The tail construction was quite interesting I thought, as well as the fact that it was pointed as most barbute styled helmets have a more rounded tail, including several of the other once velvet covered helmets. Who are you ordering this from? I guess I'm not the lucky one to be making it
