"The Holy Curia of Ecclesiastical Reenactors: The very Unofficial Church of the SCA". Alphonse posted this in another thread, so I joined the Yahoo group and read a bunch of the early posts. What an absolutely cool idea.

Thought this might make for some interesting discussion. Sorry if this group is old news, I just found out about them yesterday!

Thing's been active in the SCA since May of 2000 and hasn't started any crap within the Society. Just another "household" style outfit.

Nice, Alexandros. Heh.

If someone busts out a mass, I might have to attend, Jehan de Pelham was a mass-takin' fool.

Yeah, this is kind of a fun idea.

Hmmm, their device counters the rules of "metal on metal..." Wonder if it's registered...

Doesn't the pope's own device also break the "metal on metal" rules?

Yes, it does. It is his perogative to do so, is widely accepted, and to my knowledge it is the only such accepted variation of metal-on-metal in the real world. Sort of makes him stand out and has the whole "not subject to the laws of man" kind of aura. :)

There is certainly a fair number of arms out there in the Real World (tm) that break the Rule of Tincture. Mgr. Bruno B. Heim wrote a book about it, titled "Or and Argent". IIRC it specifically deals with instances of metal-on-metal. The arms of the kingdom of Jerusalem and the flag (not arms) of the Vatican State are just two examples.

I always thought it would be very cool to go to an SCA event with the full costume of a Bishop or other such ecclesiastical person.

Yep, "Or and Argent" is about metal on metal. Lots of "hand drawn" examples .
