God(s) and weather willing, the Longship Company will hold a welcoming party for the delivery of the Sae Hrafn on Saturday, July 16th, at 16:00 (that’s 4:00 p.m. EDST for landlubbers and Marines) at Calvert Marina, located at the end of Dowell Road off of Rt. 4, near Solomons Island, Calvert County, Maryland. There will be a general survey, lots of measuring and sketching, a mercifully short board meeting, and lots of planning of future campaigns and adventures*.

Picnic dinners will not be amiss, and a celebratory mead horn or two will probably be hoisted.

Dress runs from daily shipyard to Longship Company T-shirt and jeans to full medievals according to your own proclivities, but nothing too fancy.

Members of the Press are most welcome.

This Just In:

"I just got back from the marina. Sae Hrafn is there and in one piece.

What a beautiful ship! I took an oar and set it, and dry-rowed it to get
the feel. The closest thing I have to compare is the Glad, which some of us had the pleasure of rowing in 2000. The oars are LIGHT. They move EASILY. This ship is going to fly!

I took lots of photos, however I still use film so it'll be awhile until
they're scanned in.

Also, she smells very nice, probably nicer than she'll ever smell again

The oar blades are narrower than the oarports so we can set oars form
inboard. This is going to change out procedures a bit.

Also, anybody coming by way of Washington, DC should know that they've closed the Wilson Bridge on the Beltway for the weekend, and should plan accordingly.
