Some more at http://www.larsdatter.com/games.htm too :) including pieces from 7th-8th century Samarkand; the Lewis Chessmen (late 12th century Norway)[/url]; and so on.

The BNF has an interesting online exhibit about the game of chess, and that has some additional good detailed photos as well -- here's the knights from the Charlemagne chess, for example. :)
