The Armour Archive

Hey guys,
I've been wanting to try making this pouch, but I have no date for it. (doesn't do me much good without a date) I contacted the guy who put together the site (he's an archaeologist), but he was "in the field" at the time and was going to get back to me within a few days. I haven't heard back yet and it's been a while, so he must have forgotten or decided he didn't want to bother with it.

I am attaching a pic. All I know is that it's leather (duh), and is in a museum in Novgorod.

Any info on a date or any other info (like what kind of leather, pouch dimensions, etc.) would be greatly appreciated!

Cat - can't help you with the dating, but when you get an answer, can you put it up on the Archive? I'd like to know as well.

I will wait a couple days to see if someone here happens to know, and if not I will email the guy back and ask him if he's had a chance to find the info he had on this. I figured he probably didn't want to mess with looking it up and I didn't really want to bug him, but asking once more probably wouldn't hurt.

Failing that, if anyone happens to have an email for the "Novgorod Museum", I could see about getting an email translated into Russian and send it off to them. It would be better to get it directly from them anyway if possible, but I can't seem to find out much about the institution online, and I don't read Russian.

I will be sure to let you know if I find anything out.

I just went back and re read his email to me, and I'm thinking he might actually be at Pennsic. He didn't say if he was going, but he asked me if I was in the SCA and if I was going. His name is Michael Fuller. Anyone recognize the name?

No unfortunately I haven't. I think I may email him again and see if he has time to answer. I don't want to bug him, so I doubt I will email him more than one more time. Hopefully he will be able to answer..
