Post by armourjon »

Hello everyone,
a new project of mine is a visored sallet,

the constuction is that of 2 parts, 2 sallet halves beaten into shape then welded down the centre to finish the skull off,

so far i have the 2 halves beaten into shape and roughly planished, i still have to finish the planishing gring them smoothe then weld down the centre, cut the face opeing and hot work a visor.

i hope you enjoy

heres my work so far

looks pretty good so far but the proof is in the front silhouette, keep it up! I look forward to seeing how this goes together. What are you making it out of?

That's an old picture!

That is me in the left of the shot (red coat) receiving a sneaky hit to the cods!

The sallet looks good Jon it has a nice shape so far. Bens hat (from memory) is a little more like a barbute than a sallet isn't it?

Hi Jon, How did this Sallet come out? Thats a neat idea building it in 2 pieces like that. The shapes look good.

Take care

hi pitbull

thanks for the compliment, the sallet will now be for my girlfriend as an archers sallet, ill be grind it then take it to the welders to have it welded as i cant weld yet  then ill cut the face opening grind the weld and polish, the idea of the 2 part construction is a good idea and all that i could think of for this type of sallet, really i owe all the bright ideas to a professional armourer friend of mine Ash who apprentice with, to be honest the tale almost shapes itself i just found knocking it out the way while beating the halves together made the shape turn out quite nice, ill get on and finish this project so you can see the finished results,

thanks pitbull
