Period: English Nobility Forms of Address?

Post by Valstarr Hawkwind »

Greetings!

What time period did the English begin to use the numerical order of their nobility: i.e., Frederic Augustus Thesiger, Second Baron Chelmford (he was the commanding general in the main part of the war with the Zulu in 1879, including the major British defeat at Isandhlwana, and the victory at Ulundi).

Thanks!
Val

Not during the Middle Ages - not until the late 17th & 18th centuries,if you mean them formally giving a numerical list for however many occuopants by different families of the same lordship.
