Spear and Shield

Post by allar »

I have recently come back to the SCA after a 5 year break. Getting back into armor after the same amount of time. When I last was in armor there was rumor that MK would allow a one handed spear/shield combo. Has this been allowed and if so where can one find information on how the spear should be made etc. Does this fall under the shield/one handed weapon category or is there a separate auth for it etc. Thanks in advance

Are you just wanting to thrust with it or are you wanting to throw it?

one handed spear and shield has been allowed for a long time. The newer thrust and throw javilons are a different story. They are new, but have special manufacture requirements.

(on Pennsic) I know that movie. It is the 13th warrior. A bunch of guys in armour that doesn't match itself or anybody elses, go on a trip and argue and get drunk and get laid and then fight Tuchux.

no i do not wish to throw it was thinking more of the spear and net type fighting but the net is a shield. of course you wouldn't use the shield to tie up your opponent. Heck in that scenario could you throw the spear and pull a side arm to take its place?

Midrealm allows single handed spears and thrust and throw (not that you could use then a lot in tourney..)

Where are you located?

Well, your local Baron is in my warband (Einar), and he can help you out. You'll want to do your initial auth in sword and shield (if you were auth'd 5 years ago, a re-auth won't take long).

Feel free to PM me and I'll see how I can assist!

yes I do need to reauth for sure. I am in far less shape then i was those years back which to be honest is the main reason to put the armor back on. Will auth in one-handed/shield just wanted to try a shield and spear for the fun of it when we are not working with our main weapons. Building my pell this weekend to get back to working with that. Have only been working with friends never even crossed my mind to check out the local fighter practice lol

I fight some spear and shield, and occasionally play with a javelin.

Be happy to trade some shots with you sometime!
