My first attempt at sword-shaping innovation... a falcata. I had an extra piece of rattan left over from a while back. It was going to be a talwar, but my friend backed out of his Mughal idea. This weekend, I got bored. This is one of the results...

Couldn't find gold duct tape, even on the internet, so i went with brown. It turned out lighter than I expected. Also, I have no use for it, so if there's anyone with a greek/celtic personna that wants it, it's for sale.

As you can see, there's plenty of room for a L/XL gauntlet. I used a lot of my scrap leather on this particular poking stick. The forward curve bulge is layered saddle skirting (tough stuff, btw), and the hilt is made of stacked closed cell sandwiched between more stiff leather. It has been srapping taped to the nines, so she'll hold up in a scuffle. Also, the thrusting tip has been reinforced with some more forgiving leather along the striking (red) edge.

Nice. I made mine based on advised from Adam from White Mountain Armoury, for a technique he used for his Glaives...
Unfortunately the hilt I had commissioned was not ready for this Pennsic, and it may still not be ready until Spring, but it will rock once ready...

The hilt is 2 layers of the standard Walmart closed cell (blue) foam camp pad sandwiched in between stiff saddle scrap leather. The result was strapping taped all to heck, and came out pretty sturdy. The problem I've run into is that in order to make the opening large enough to accommodate a full gaunt, it has to be more/less cartoon huge. I'll admit it didn't turn out quite as aesthetically pleasing as I'd hoped (mostly due to the thruster, which is so often the death of pretty, ime).
How'd you do your blade/thruster?
